Donald Trump's System of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's voracious appetite for revenge has rapidly evolved into a methodical apparatus. Over the past year, the chief executive's rage and caprices have assumed the form of administrative measures in ways analogous to earlier dictatorial systems. Justice department personnel who do not cooperate are immediately fired and substituted by loyalists. Critical leaders who question him encounter legal action, trial and sanctions. Critics have been categorized under presidential memoranda as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “opposing economic freedom”, and warned with criminal charges as “extremists”.

Government Institutions Restructured

All situation involving targeting of Trump's enemies and leniency for loyalists demonstrates its own unique features. But, notwithstanding their particular form, they represent examples of what has emerged as a systematic method. Such episodes are anything but random. His cleansing of DoJ lawyers and law enforcement personnel, alongside his installation of supporters in senior roles, started rapidly, soon took on a consistency, and has now been shaped into a system. DoJ and the FBI have been remade into ideological bodies under his explicit direction to carry out his directives. Injustice has been turned into routine. It represents the system of punishment.

Management is more concerned with penalizing the President's perceived adversaries than they are with protecting our public welfare.

Inside the Structure

The origin of this mechanism has been uncovered in the court filing of multiple ex- high-ranking FBI executives filed in the ninth month in the US district court in Washington against top official a senior appointee and attorney general a key figure for illegal termination in “a campaign of revenge against them for what Defendants judged to be a failure to exhibit adequate allegiance”. In the complaint that one official, the previous temporary head, describes a discussion in which Patel “publicly admitted the impropriety of his actions”.

He had tried to shield FBI agents from being terminated, the filing claims. Patel advised him that “they” – perceived by him to be the executive branch and DoJ – had instructed him to fire everyone who they considered as having worked on a legal probe against Trump. The complaint continues: “He explained that he had to dismiss the people his superiors told him to dismiss, because his ability to hold his own job depended on the removal of the personnel who were involved in cases involving the President. Patel noted that there was no way he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other firings, because ‘the bureau tried to incarcerate the President in detention and he recalls it clearly.’” Once he advised him he was disregarding the bureau's own regulations, Patel supposedly said “he recognized that and he knew the essence of the immediate dismissals were almost certainly illegal”.

Broad Effects

Following his alleged confession to him, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and redirected for the administration's system of punishment. Several of the agency's top officials were dismissed or compelled to leave in the first days of the government. Approximately thousands of legal professionals at DoJ have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. At least several government attorneys, among them those in the New York office, quit in objection over what they regarded as ideological pressure in withdrawing the corruption case against the city leader, a political figure, in return for his assistance with the administration's ICE arrests of migrants. The public integrity section of DoJ, which handles ethical violations, has been cut down to minimal staff. The rights protection unit has been devastated: seventy percent of its staff has departed. 33% of senior leaders at DoJ have resigned. The unit implementing environmental law has seen departures of half its leadership.

Incentives and Penalties

Regarding the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, she, resigned in protest against what she described as the “trade-off”. The border official, Trump's “enforcement chief,” showed up as the enforcer with Adams on television to state: “Should he fail to deliver, I will return in NYC.”. Additionally, a former official, earlier the justice department figure and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the agreement, was given an judicial position, a potential stepping stone to the judicial branch.

The president's exemption for wrongdoings committed while in power, granted by the unprecedented judgment of the conservative on the judicial body, thus preventing his criminal case over the political violence and safeguarding his public standing for the 2024 election, is the cornerstone on which he depends to defend his supporters. Under these circumstances, he has been liberated to permit misconduct. The consequence of the court judgment permeates his administration and the political party completely. Trump v United States has escalated. Similar to Richard Nixon's legal adviser John Dean remarked about the Watergate
